I’m nervous about physical therapy, will physical therapy hurt or make my pain worse?
If you are asking yourself these questions, you are not the only one. Here at Salisbury Physical Therapy, from day one, we strive to make you feel better! Treatments for post surgery and injury can be a little uncomfortable but it is our philosophy and treatment style to gently, but effectively push you in the right direction. Most people feel better after leaving day one. To create change we do need to push a little into discomfort but to distinguish this from hurtful pain that can cause set backs. We will take the time to discuss and make sure you understand what activities and exercises are appropriate and how you should feel during and after these. Sometimes modifications to treatments and exercises are required based on how you are tolerating and we are here to be your guide to the quickest recovery!
What should I expect on my first visit in physical therapy?
There is easy parking, both regular and handicap parking in front of our office door. You will be given the option of being able to complete any paper work online before your appointment or in our welcoming and comfortable waiting area. There is coffee, water and snacks. The clean and comfortable restroom is easily accessible. Your doctor of physical therapy will take the time to thoroughly discuss your pain and limitations, your goals and expectations to make sure everyone is on the same page. With a full evaluation we will look at how you are moving, range of motion, muscle strength, palpate the muscles and feel the joints. After this we will discuss findings and make sure you understand exactly what is going on with your health and pain and how we will get you back to living life to the fullest. We will do hands on treatment and start with simple, targeted exercises to begin helping you feel better day 1.
What should I wear to physical therapy?
Most of the time you can wear your normal clothing, but recommended to wear comfortable clothing that you can move and stretch in or that may need to be pulled up to do soft tissue on muscles or joints. Sometimes we have people come straight from work and this is okay. Sometimes people bring a change of cloths. If needed we have looser fitting shorts or shirts that you can change into, if we need to get to the joint or muscles being treated. Your physical therapist will discuss with you on day one if you need to wear something that will help accommodate treatment, so no worries if you are not 100% sure. We are here to help and make you feel as comfortable as possible on your journey to living life more fully again.
Does Salisbury Physical Therapy take my insurance?
We are enrolled with Medicare and bill all other major insurances. When you call we can conveniently verify your in or out of network benefits. We also have a prompt pay/cash option. We will go over all of these and present you the options that best meet your needs. We have gotten several comments from patients who decide to pay the cash option, that this was a better price than what they were paying in-network at other providers. We will work with you to get the quality of care you need and deserve while considering any financial concerns.
